Who’s Shortie?

Shortie Surfboards—a name derived from reasons obvious when you meet shaper Sam Ayton—is a custom surfboard label based in Redhead, on the east coast of NSW.

Though established in 2011, Sam had long dreamt of becoming a shaper and has never envisioned a future other than the one he’s living today.

Sam takes immense pride in the art of surfboard building, taking the time to ensure that each and every board feels right in his hands, under the arm, and even better under your feet.

“I love being able to work with surfers of all abilities and styles to enhance the joy of surfing by crafting boards that just feel like they go. My goal is to make boards that feel like they’re doing the work for you—making it easy (or as easy as surfing can feel).”

“Just as much as I love shaping, I also love throwing colour onto a board and getting creative.”

Shortie Surfboards are known for their colourful, eccentric, and unique glass jobs and designs.
